Conversations with the S.MAB Bursary Competition Winner

Who is Relebohile?

Rele is an ambitious young girl who is loving, kind, and giving.

Where are you from?

I was born in Vryburg, North West, but I mostly grew up in a small town called Ventersburg in Free State. I now currently live in Rustenburg with my mom and younger brothers.

What was your favorite subject in high school?

I don’t think I had one favorite subject, but I was very fond of Maths and Life Science.

What made you interested in studying to become a flight attendant?

Mostly my love and desire for travel. I knew I wanted to travel when I grew up so I wanted to work in a field that allowed me to do so.

Who is your biggest inspiration?

My biggest inspiration would definitely have to be my mom. She has taught me a lot growing but one this that really stuck with me is how she taught me to not depend on anyone. She raised me to be able to provide for myself and not expect anyone to provide for me.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I’ve been extremely busy with school lately but whenever I get the chance, I like to be surrounded by the ones I love, whether it be family or friends. If not, I binge-watch movies and series.

Which company would you like to work for when you’re done studying?

My number one go-to company should have to be Emirates. That is where I see myself working, but of course, if that doesn’t work out, I would go for Qatar, British Airways, or Airlink. But for the time being, until I’m 21 I looking at working for Airlink.

Have you traveled outside of South Africa before?

I have never actually traveled outside of South Africa. I think that’s what fueled my desire to travel overseas. I just want to see more of the world.

Which country would you like to visit in the near future?

I actually have a whole list of places I want to visit, but at the very top of the list is the Maldives.

How did you find out about S.MAB Training Academy?

Through thorough and intense research. I was looking for the perfect school for me and S.MAB grabbed my attention at first sight.

How has your experience at the academy been so far?

It has been tough and challenging, but more so amazing and informative.

Which module in the Flight Attendant course is your favorite?

Theory of Flight and Avmed, even though they are the most challenging of them all for me. I love a bit of a challenge.

What keeps you motivated to study when you’re feeling lazy?

Music. The right song could determine your mood for the day.

Your mother seems to be your biggest supporter, what would you like to say to her?

I would like to thank her, not just for supporting me now, but for all she’s sacrificed and done to allow me to be able to pursue my dream so that one day I can be able to give her more than she’s ever given me.

What advice would you give to other young people who are looking to study aviation like you?

Just enjoy yourself, no matter how challenging it might be never give up if it’s something you really want to do. Work harder than you’ve ever worked before, but don’t strain yourself too much.
